The Future Of Recruiting

LinkedIn knocked out the 2024 edition of their Future of Recruiting report a few months ago. And in it they made a number of bold predictions. How many of them have come to pass? Well that largely depends on how you've been recruiting this year…

The report talks about the influx of Gen Z in talent pools, the ongoing rise of AI, and opens up the remote work debate (again). But this year's big talking point?

"Quality of hire will top the recruiting agenda."

Apparently, 73% of recruiters are prioritising hiring based on skills in order to ensure better quality hires and keep talent pools nice and open. The report goes on to encourage employers to develop robust, bias-free frameworks that effectively identify, track, and measure the quality of every hire joining the business.

So. Have you? Is this something you focus on for hires in your own business? When recruiting for your clients? Both? Neither?!

There's no one way to do it. It takes time, effort, and lots of little, concerted actions. And the impact is felt on the recruiters you hire, the people they recruit, right down to the tech you use.

Companies

By 2025, Gen Z will comprise over a quarter of the workforce. Contrary to popular belief, this doesn't mean you have to move all your 1-2-1s to TikTok and end every meeting with a coordinated dance routine.

It does mean making some adjustments. Gen Z will likely find outdated recruitment processes off-putting and will want any information you give them to be clear, easily accessible, and comprehensive.

If you’re happy your workplace is fit for the future workforce, a good place to start articulating this would be your Hunted profile. Here you can explain exactly what your business does that makes it unique in as much detail as you like. Put it up there proudly and let quality talent find you. They're an investigative bunch this Gen Z lot

Suppliers

It's no secret recruiters love a good productivity hack. Ever since fax machines, rolodexes, and ashtrays on desks were replaced with email, mobile phones, and gym memberships, we've never looked back. We simply love doing more, faster.

Right now, all everyone's talking about are chatbots writing job descriptions. I still remember the first time I saw the words "cloud-based CRM" written down. Magic, it was. But whatever it is, if there's a way for recruiters to spend less time in a spreadsheet and more time on the phone, they'll take it. Because that's what gets them closer to their clients and candidates, and that's what helps them make lasting, quality hires.

If you're in the market for a specific tech product - or if you're marketing one yourself - our Supplier directory is a place for recruiters to discover solutions to problems they didn't even realise were holding them back.

Recruiters

Recently there has been an almost 150% increase in the number of applications to remote jobs. And at the same time, a near 50% decrease in remote job opportunities. What this means is employers are calling people back into the office and less people are actually coming.

Remote roles might be a hot topic at the moment. But a quality hire at a remote company might not work in an office-based environment. And vice versa. In this case, finding the right hire is all about making sure they can make the right choice.

Which is why recruiters can browse company profiles on Hunted and determine for themselves whether an opportunity is right or not. And whether "flexible working" means being able to confidently make the school run, or having to tie yourself in knots trying to finish your work everyday.

The home of recruitment

Underpinning all of this - Gen Z, AI, remote or office based working - is authenticity. There's no real trick to dealing with Gen Z: just be honest with them and they'll decide whether they vibe with you or not. AI job descriptions might be faster, but they look like they were written by a robot and no one relates to them. And remote or office based working is neither inherently good or bad, but it may be right or wrong depending on the individual and what they want.

You can improve your chance of a high quality hire by keeping on top of your presence on Hunted. If you've been active on LinkedIn lately you'll have noticed we're constantly posting jobs, shoutouts, news and more to our combined 100K followers. And we’re proud to be supported by top voices like The Recruitment Network (TRN) and Joel Lalgee.

So forget quality hires for a moment and come say a quality "hiya" next time you get a chance!
